It is completely natural to need some change every now and then, but when it comes to career-shifts, the time and money required to start on a new path is a deterrent for many individuals who may be dissatisfied with their current career or job. Because of this, far too many of us get bogged down by the day-to-day operations of their jobs and go home every night unhappy.

While nondestructive testing offers a lot of lateral variety for technicians seeking work in different fields, there is also quite a bit of room for vertical growth.

For NDT technicians looking to move up-- or for those looking to enter into the nondestructive testing field--NDT inspector training is a great way to learn new skills and strengthen existing ones.

If you’re thinking of changing careers, NDT inspector training could be precisely what you’ve been looking for. Here’s what you need to know about taking your next steps.

NDT Inspector Training

As one could assume, NDT inspectors should have a thorough and nuanced understanding of the nondestructive testing field and the variety of methods used by technicians.

As an inspector, you should also be comfortable enough with the practice of these methods to confidently instruct newer technicians in how to practice NDT methods.

To maintain the integrity of instruction and ensure rigorous training for prospective technicians, NDT inspectors must meet one of the following requirements,

  • Possess a degree in engineering or science from a university or college with a minimum one year of Level II experience in the specific NDT discipline(s)
  • Passed at least two years of science or engineering study at a college, university, or technical school with two years of Level II experience in the specific NDT discipline(s)
  • Gained four years of Level II experience in the specific NDT discipline(s)

NDT instructors are required to meet these standards in addition to achieving NDT Level III certification: the highest level of certification.

Becoming an NDT inspector means becoming a crucial component of the system that helps ensure the safety and efficiency of industries that are the backbone of American society and innovation. Whether it is for this reason or motivated by a need for change, NDT inspector training sets you on a track for success in a worthwhile career.
