In a world where convenience is king, cutting corners is the name of the game. More often than not, it seems like most businesses are aiming for products and practices that are fast and cheap.

When it comes to nondestructive testing, cutting corners is not only a sign of poor business integrity, it could also prove dangerous if extensive measures are not taken to conduct thorough inspections.

In the NDT field, level III certification signifies a technician who has gone above and beyond to achieve the highest level of certification and experience. Here is what you need to know about how level III services that nondestructive testing to the next level.

What is NDT Certification?

Becoming a qualified NDT technician is more than just a weekend workshop and a printable certificate.

Technicians who obtain NDT certification at any level have gone through tens of hours of training to reach even the preliminary levels of certification. Each of these levels of certification involves non destructive testing courses with seasoned professionals and hands-on training to sufficiently prepare technicians for complete their jobs with excellence.

Level III Difference

All levels of certification, however, are not created equal. When a technician reaches NDT level III certification, they separate themselves as particularly skilled and dedicated. A level III NDT technician has exceptional qualifications, experience, and can offer a unique set of services.

Qualifications

As a level III certified technician, individuals must demonstrate their acumen in exams and have one of the following:

  • Possess a degree in engineering or science from a university or college with a minimum one year of Level II experience in the specific NDT discipline(s)
  • Passed at least two years of science or engineering study at a college, university, or technical school with two years of Level II experience in the specific NDT discipline(s)
  • Gained four years of Level II experience in the specific NDT discipline(s)

Clearly, the qualifications required of a technician to reach level III certification are indicative of a professional who is a cut above the rest and exceptionally skilled.

Experience

It is not just the quantity of years that set level III technicians apart, but their quality that is also significant. Aside from the years of hands-on experience in the NDT field required to achieve their qualifications, level III technicians also spend time as supervisors and instructors in addition to being students.

As even the most basic theory of knowledge will indicate, the greatest demonstration of mastery over a subject is the ability to teach it to others. Level III certified technicians are qualified and knowledgeable enough to guide less-experienced technicians in the best practices for nondestructive testing.
