What is Nondestructive Testing (NDT)?

Nondestructive testing is a vibrant field that serves a variety of industries from railways, to green energy to infrastructure. It is an exciting and innovative field that continues to grow in demand and fields serviced.

NDT technicians perform vital testing on machines and components to ensure that they are functioning safely and efficiently.

What is NDT Training?

NDT training is the process by which technicians learn the ins and outs of nondestructive testing through NDT courses taught by instructors who are practicing NDT technicians themselves.

During nondestructive testing courses, technicians learn how to perform the best methods of inspection on sensitive assets that don’t damage components.

Technicians are offered training in a variety of NDT methods such as

Liquid Penetrant Testing, Ultrasonic Testing and Visual Inspection to become a well-rounded and highly-skilled NDT professional.

NDT certification can look different depending on the level of certification you seek:

  • Level I Limited and Level I: the lowest level of NDT certification, which involves learning the basics on nondestructive testing and conducting tests under close supervision
  • Level II: at this level, technicians have more experience, are familiar with how to prepare for and conduct various nondestructive tests, and can supervision less experienced technicians
  • NDT Level III Certification: Technicians at this level are highly skilled and serve as supervisors and instructors as well as experienced technicians.

How can I prepare?

Depending on which type of NDT training you seek, you should plan to invest your time and money accordingly:

  • Ultrasonic Testing Level I: 40 hours over 5 days ($1,095.00)
  • Ultrasonic Testing Level II: 40 hours over 5 days ($1,095.00)
