Who is a Good Candidate for NDT Training?

According to the NDT Resource Center, “Nondestructive testing personnel are often certified by their employer or other agency to meet certain qualifications, which are established by industry. Certification is basically a process of providing written testimony that an individual is qualified to do certain work. The qualifications of an individual are based on education, level of training, work experience, and the ability to pass a vision test.”

While an individual may get nondestructive testing certified in order to enter into an exciting and growing career field, companies may also choose NDT training for their employees in order to improve the overall efficiency and safety of their daily operations.

Regardless of the motivations driving the choice to NDT certify, it is important to consider whether or not it would be the right choice for the given individual. If you’re deciding whether or not NDT Training would be right for yourself or one of your employees, here is what you need to know before you embark on this journey.

Commitment to Excellence

When considering a candidate for NDT training, make sure that you’re investing in someone who is committed to completing all work with integrity.

Nondestructive testing requires acute attention to detail for proper completion and demonstrating the kind of skill necessary to complete NDT training will require the same caliber of effort.

NDT technicians are frequently making decisions that have a direct impact on the efficiency and safety of critical equipment, which can have some serious financial consequences if each job is not completed with integrity.

NDT courses are not for individuals who just want to “get by” and add another certification to their resume. NDT training is for technicians who revel in a challenge and take pride in a job well done.

Growth Mindset

NDT certification programs like TXNDT place emphasis on the necessity of technicians to have ample hands-on experience to qualify them for the jobs they are certified to accomplish.

As such, there are a number of steps to complete before reaching NDT level 3 certification – the highest level attainable through non destructive testing courses.

Individuals who take NDT courses should approach their work with a growth mindset, understanding that improvement and motivation to move forward are vital qualities to becoming NDT certified. Technicians who want to get training “out of the way” and accomplish work expediently are likely to find the NDT certification process frustrating if they are not willing to grow.

Leadership Ability

NDT Training also implies that the individual seeking certification has refined leadership skills. It is well known that the most advanced level of mastery of a given skill is the ability to teach it to others.

NDT certified technicians at Level 3 or Level 2 are likely to supervise and train newer technicians who are just learning the ropes. As important as it is to practice your own skills by teaching others, it is also vital that new technicians learn about nondestructive testing from someone who is seasoned in the NDT field and has fresh hands-on experience, rather than someone who hasn’t performed NDT in decades.

At TXNDT, we are committed to ensuring that all technicians who receive certification through our program leave as seasoned professionals with ample hands-on experience, guided by the best minds in the business. We ensure that personnel are qualified and equipped to best serve their job functions and stay aware of any and all compliance needs and specifications.
